The wildfire that broke out on Sunday in the Paphos district was brought under control by the evening, but firefighting teams remain in the area to guard against possible flare-ups, especially with strong winds forecast for later in the day.
According to Koulla Mesaritou, spokesperson for the Fire Service’s Press and Public Relations Office, the blaze was contained on Sunday night, but all emergency personnel are still stationed at the scene.
“Since early morning, two firefighting aircrafts supported the operation with water drops, before being released from duty,” she told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
Mesaritou noted that conditions could worsen as the day progresses. “We remain on site with optimism, but strong winds are expected this afternoon. All forces will remain in place until further notice to deal with any potential flare-ups.”
