Father makes tattoo scar tribute to support son

Date:

A father has moved thousands online with a heartfelt tattoo scar tribute to his young son, Bennet, who was born with a congenital heart defect and spent over a month in the paediatric cardiology intensive care unit.

In just a few weeks of life, Bennet underwent seven surgeries, which left a long scar down the centre of his chest. To honour his son’s fight for survival, his father, Eric Conklin, tattooed an identical replica of the scar on his own chest.

“I got a tattoo that means more to me than anything else I’ll ever put on my skin,” Conklin wrote on Instagram. “I wanted him to know he will never be alone in this fight. His scar is his story of survival. Mine is my promise: whatever he carries, I will carry too.”

Bennet is now recovering at home, with his father hoping their story will inspire other families facing similar battles. “This is not just a tattoo- it is a tribute to my son’s strength and a call for awareness of congenital heart defects. So many families fight silently every day, and I want everyone to know we are not alone,” he added.

Conklin also expressed deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Mount Sinai who treated Bennet: “Not only did you save our son’s life, but you fought for him with passion every step of the way.”
