Family disputes Baumgertner cremation in Cyprus

Concerns over cremation

Serious allegations have emerged regarding the cremation of Russian businessman Vladislav Baumgertner, who went missing under unclear circumstances in Cyprus in early January and was later found dead. According to Russian reports, his business partner Alexey Dorzotchev carried out the cremation on February 21 despite objections from Baumgertner’s family.

Family calls for investigation

The family – including his sister and sons – had requested that the burial permit not be issued until investigations by Cypriot and UK authorities into the exact cause of death were completed. Relatives argue that the cremation prevents an independent forensic examination that could clarify the circumstances of his death.

Timeline of disappearance

Baumgertner disappeared on January 7 while leaving his residence for a business meeting. He was reportedly seen at a hotel in the Pissouri area, where he spent the night, before his whereabouts became unknown. Authorities later suggested an “accident,” claiming he fell from a cliff during a hike – a theory the family disputes given his health issues.

Questions over assets

The report notes that after Baumgertner’s death, Dorzotchev allegedly gained access to his financial and business records, raising further concerns, as the legal heirs are Baumgertner’s children and sister.

The allegations of a rushed cremation, pressure on the family, and conflicting explanations for the death deepen the mystery, while investigations by the relevant authorities continue.
