New eyewitness accounts have emerged following the Jet2 flight death involving 35-year-old Callum Kerr, who became unresponsive after a flight from Larnaca to Manchester.
According to the Manchester Evening News (MEN), passengers described chaotic scenes on board as people moved towards the front of the aircraft and children became distressed during the incident.
Kerr, from Warrington, had boarded the flight with his girlfriend on 21 June and reportedly became increasingly disruptive around an hour into the journey.
Passenger allegedly became aggressive
Witnesses cited by MEN said Kerr appeared heavily intoxicated and became verbally abusive before allegedly turning physically aggressive towards passengers and members of the cabin crew.
Attempts by crew members and the pilot to de-escalate the situation were reportedly unsuccessful. One witness claimed that after being reminded that children were on board, Kerr allegedly responded that he “didn’t care”.
Shortly before landing, Kerr allegedly headbutted another passenger and was then restrained by fellow travellers and crew members.
Investigation remains ongoing
The death during the Jet2 flight case took a further turn after police boarded the aircraft upon arrival at Manchester Airport in the early hours of 22 June.
According to previous Philenews reporting, officers from Greater Manchester Police found Kerr unresponsive and immediately carried out CPR before paramedics transported him to the hospital. He died on 23 June.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed two alleged assaults involving a passenger and a cabin crew member. The case has also been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which is examining the actions of officers who attended the incident.
The officers involved are currently being treated as witnesses rather than suspects.
Jet2 extended condolences to Kerr’s family and friends and stated that it would not comment further while investigations continue.
