Explosion at recycling plant in Livadia leaves three seriously injured

An explosion occurred at a recycling plant in Livadia at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Friday, resulting in serious injuries to three individuals.

The condition of the three men – aged 52, 42 and 39 – who were injured in an explosion that occurred this morning at a metal recycling factory in Aradippou is considered serious but out of danger by the attending physicians of the Larnaca General Hospital.

According to the Larnaca Police Department, the 52-year-old has injuries to his arms and legs and is expected to be admitted to surgery for surgery, with his health condition being considered serious by the attending physicians, but out of danger.

The 42-year-old, who was found at the scene when he went to pick up his own old metals, suffered a ruptured spleen, which was removed in surgery. The man is being treated out of danger at the Orthopedic Clinic of the Larnaca General Hospital.

Moreover, the 39-year-old, who has been residing illegally in the Republic of Cyprus since 2023, has injuries to his hands and feet and is undergoing surgery.
The condition of the three men is, according to the attending doctors, serious but out of danger.

It is recalled that the explosion occurred around 09.30 in the morning, when the 52-year-old went to the site in a double-cab vehicle to deliver old metals.

During the unloading of the metals, an explosion occurred, injuring him, an employee of the company and another citizen who was at the site to transport his own metals.

Larnaca Police Director Ioannis Sotiriadis, members of the Aradippou Police Station and the Larnaca TAE went to the scene, who sealed off the scene, conducted examinations and received various documents.

Initial tests indicate that the explosion was caused by an unexploded military munition.

Police and National Guard bomb disposal experts, members of the Labor Inspection Service and the Fire Department also attended the scene.

The case is being investigated by the Aradippou Police Station.
