The Protaras Riviera marks a new chapter for tourism in eastern Cyprus, as the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia presents a unified destination brand that connects its coastal and inland areas under one shared identity.
The Protaras Riviera brings together the popular resort of Protaras, the communities of Paralimni and Deryneia, as well as surrounding areas such as Kapparis and Pernera, creating a cohesive tourism narrative that spans beaches, culture, and nature.
Officials say the initiative aims to strengthen the region’s global profile while showcasing its full year-round tourism potential.
A unified coastal and inland experience
At the heart of the Protaras Riviera lies its coastline, where 18 Blue Flag beaches define the area’s reputation for clean waters, safety, and high-quality visitor experiences.
Iconic locations such as Fig Tree Bay in Protaras continue to attract international attention for their turquoise waters and white sands. Nearby coastal gems, including Pernera, Konnos, and Kapparis, offer quieter bays and diverse seaside landscapes.
The initiative also links the coastal zone with inland experiences in Paralimni and Deryneia, highlighting museums, traditional architecture, local gastronomy, and agricultural heritage.

Nature, culture, and outdoor exploration
The Protaras Riviera extends beyond beaches, integrating natural landscapes and cultural routes that define the region’s identity.
Visitors can explore parts of Cape Greco National Forest Park, including walking trails that connect sea caves, cliffs, and panoramic viewpoints. Routes between chapels, villages, and coastal paths offer a more immersive experience of the area’s natural beauty.
Inland, Paralimni showcases cultural landmarks such as museums and traditional houses, while Deryneia maintains strong links to agricultural production and local traditions.

Expanding infrastructure and future development
A key feature of the Protaras Riviera vision is the development of modern infrastructure, including upgraded pedestrian routes and the planned Paralimni Marina in Pernera.
Once completed, the marina is expected to operate as a year-round destination, adding new commercial, leisure, and hospitality services to the coastal front.
Authorities say these developments aim to extend the tourism season and strengthen the region’s competitiveness in the Eastern Mediterranean.
A destination built on experiences
The Protaras Riviera promotes a wide range of activities, from water sports and diving to cycling, hiking, and cultural exploration.
Visitors can experience sunrise views along the coast, explore inland villages, and enjoy local food traditions that reflect the character of the region. The area positions itself not just as a summer resort, but as a multi-layered destination offering experiences throughout the year.
