Cyprus recorded a decline in commercial flights during all three summer months of 2026, while air traffic increased across the European Union, according to Eurostat data.
Cyprus flights fall for third month
The number of commercial flights in Cyprus fell by 3% year on year in August.
A 2.4% decline had already been recorded in both June and July compared with the corresponding months of 2025.
Cyprus was among eight EU member states to record a decline in commercial flights in August.
Austria recorded the largest annual decrease at 4.7%, followed by Cyprus at 3% and Germany at 2.4%.
Flights increase in 19 EU countries
The trend was different across most of the EU, with commercial flights increasing in 19 member states in August compared with the same month in 2025.
Slovakia recorded the largest increase at 37%, followed by Malta at 12.4% and Estonia at 8.3%.
More than two million commercial flights were recorded across the EU between June and August 2026.
Nearly 709,000 flights in August
A total of 708,980 commercial flights were recorded in the EU in August, an increase of 2.3% compared with August 2025 and 5.7% compared with August 2024.
July recorded the highest level of air traffic during the summer, with 709,931 commercial flights. This represented a 2.8% annual increase and a 5.7% rise compared with July 2024.
In June, 662,480 commercial flights were recorded across the EU, up 2.1% from 2025 and 4.9% from 2024.
