England: 8 key players out due to injury ahead of Greece match

Date:

Interim England coach Lee Carsley has had to make significant changes to his squad for the upcoming matches against Greece (14/11) and Ireland (17/11), with eight players now unavailable due to injuries, as announced by the English Football Association (FA) on Monday (11/11).

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Levi Colwill, Cole Palmer, and Aaron Ramsay will not be available to face Greece in Athens on Thursday or Ireland at Wembley three days later.

In response to the injury “epidemic,” Morgan Rogers of Aston Villa was called up urgently, marking his first selection for the senior England squad. Additionally, Jarrod Bowen, Jarrad Branthwaite, Tino Livramento, and James Trafford are the new faces in Carsley’s 23-man squad. Carsley is preparing for his final two matches in charge of England before Thomas Tuchel takes the helm on 1 January.

England are currently second in Group 2 of League B with nine points, trailing Greece, who lead with 12 points after winning all four of their matches.
