EndoMarch Cyprus 2025

The awareness campaign for Endometriosis begins
“No just a bad period” – It’s not just a difficult period

It is a story that has been told over and over again. A young girl begins to experience unbearable pain, but doctors tell her it is “just a difficult period.” A woman suffers every month, yet no one can explain why. A couple trying to conceive is told that their infertility issues are “unexplained.”

Endometriosis is not just a gynaecological condition. It is a chronic, debilitating disease that affects every aspect of a woman’s life. From adolescence, when early symptoms force her to miss school, to adulthood, where she must balance intense pain with professional responsibilities. In the workplace, her productivity often declines, leading to prejudice and doubt. The pain, fatigue, and other symptoms make even the simplest daily tasks challenging, creating a vicious cycle that impacts her overall quality of life—mentally, personally, socially, and professionally.

This year, Cyprus once again joins 75 other countries worldwide in actively participating in the Global Movement Worldwide EndoMarch, which leads the fight for proper diagnosis and effective treatment of endometriosis. According to the Worldwide EndoMarch Organisation, recent research indicates that endometriosis affects between 400 million and 1.5 billion women globally.

The non-profit organisation EndoMarch Cyprus is once again placing our country within this global chain of awareness, helping us to learn, be informed, and share knowledge about endometriosis. With a message that cannot be ignored—”No just a bad period”—EndoMarch Cyprus raises its voice louder than ever. Not just to talk about endometriosis, but to make sure the stories of affected women are truly heard. Not just to present statistics, but to change the way this disease is perceived by society and the medical community. Knowledge is the first step. Change happens when society decides that no more generations of women should suffer in silence.

Endometriosis is a benign condition affecting 1 in 5 women worldwide. Despite its severe symptoms impacting every aspect of their lives, these symptoms are often misinterpreted as “common period pains,” leading to years-long delays in diagnosis. Early diagnosis is crucial. This is a disease that usually begins in adolescence, and by the time it is diagnosed, it has often already progressed and affected fertility. The earlier endometriosis is recognised, the more effectively it can be treated, emphasises Gynaecologist Dr Andreas Stavroulis, President of EndoMarch Cyprus and Founder of the Endometriosis & Fertility Center at the American Medical Center.

A month of action, awareness, and advocacy

The EndoMarch Cyprus 2025 Campaign, under the Auspices of the Minister of Health, Mr Michalis Damianou, and under the High Patronage of the First Lady, Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, will take place throughout March, featuring a series of events aimed at raising awareness, promoting education, and strengthening support for women living with endometriosis.

Key events of the campaign:

  • Yellow Day Event – Saturday, 15 March | 16:00 – 18:00 | Roe + Bone, Old Port, Limassol
The EndoMarch Cyprus team and Campaign President, Dr Andreas Stavroulis, will engage with the public in an interactive discussion, providing valuable information about endometriosis.
  • Endometriosis Online Discussion – Thursday, 20 March | 18:00 – 19:30 (Virtual Event)
Dr Andreas Stavroulis will lead an essential conversation with the public. Women living with endometriosis will share their experiences, express their concerns, and learn about the latest scientific advancements in diagnosis and treatment.
  • Endometriosis meets art: The Yellow ribbon unwind – Friday, 28 March – Monday, 31 March | University of Cyprus
Art becomes a powerful tool for education, inspiration, and empowerment in the fight against endometriosis. The University of Cyprus, supporting the campaign, will host an exhibition featuring 20 distinguished artists. Through their work, they will depict the pain, depression, silence, anxiety, struggle, and resilience of women with endometriosis.
  • It starts early – The Only prevention is early detection – Monday, 31 March | 12:00 – 13:00 | University of Cyprus
Dr Andreas Stavroulis will discuss the importance of early diagnosis at this informative event. Engaging with the public and students at the University of Cyprus, he will highlight how recognising symptoms early and accessing modern treatment options can transform the lives of thousands of women.

Expanding awareness through digital and media campaigns

Alongside these events, EndoMarch Cyprus will enhance its voice with a comprehensive communication, media, and public relations plan, led annually by Avaton Communications. This includes:
