ELPIS app in full operation first half of 2025, President says

Date:

“ELPIS” (Hope in Greek) application is yet another initiative in our effort to prevent and address violence and is expected to be fully operational within the first half of 2025, said President Nikos Christodoulides, in a statement on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

The President said that the application has been designed specifically for victims of domestic violence who are at increased risk and need to be in immediate contact with the Police, without being noticed by the perpetrator. Its pilot implementation began today.

The President said in his statement that this new action is an extension of the implementation of important policies included in the National Strategy and the 2023-2028 National Action Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women.

He added that today reminds us that violence against women remains a serious and ever-growing problem with devastating consequences for the lives of millions of women and girls around the world.

The President noted that gender-based violence constitutes a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and violates the dignity and autonomy of women and girls. He added that effective prevention and combating violence against women is at the core of the government’s policies.

He went on to say that together we are putting together a safe society where no form of violence has a place and a society where every woman and girl can live free without fear and shame.
