An elderly man was reported missing at Akti Olympion beach on Tuesday night and later Limassol swimmer found dead after a coordinated sea search.
According to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC), the alarm was raised at 20:40, prompting activation of the national Search and Rescue plan “Nearchos.” A vessel from the Port and Marine Police and members of the Limassol Police bicycle unit were deployed to the area.
At 21:15, the missing swimmer was located unconscious and brought ashore by the Marine Police. He was handed over to an ambulance of the State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) and transported to Limassol General Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had died. Authorities said examinations are continuing to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
Residents and visitors are reminded to follow local safety guidance and swim only where lifeguards and warning systems are in place, particularly during evening hours.
The Limassol swimmer found dead case remains under investigation by the relevant authorities.
