Cyprus minimum wage rises today, January 1, 2026: €979 gross for monthly for new full-time hires (up from €900), €1,088 gross after six months (from €1,000). Part-timers adjusted by hours. Hotel sector shifts to 2023 standards; full-time hours unchanged per law or agreements. Officials aim to match living costs, ensure fair business competition.
Worker reactions mixed
Officials say the rise is intended to help employees cope with higher living costs, while also ensuring wages remain fair and competitive for businesses.
However, some argue the increase falls short. Several workers note that, despite the adjustment, pay still trails the sharp rise in prices for essential goods and services. “It’s a positive move, but it doesn’t reflect the realities of today’s economy,” said a retail worker from Nicosia.
For many Cypriots, the change will offer some modest relief to their household finances from today, even as the discussion continues over whether it truly addresses the everyday needs of workers.
