Cloud cover will increase at intervals across Cyprus today, mainly with medium and high clouds, as Cyprus weather conditions begin to shift ahead of expected rain and storms later in the week.
Dust and changing conditions
A weak high-pressure system is temporarily affecting the area, while dust will remain in the atmosphere from today through Wednesday.
Northeast to southeast winds will blow at weak to moderate strength, force 3 to 4 Beaufort, and locally up to strong, force 5. The sea will remain generally slight to moderate. Temperatures will reach around 22°C inland and along the coast, and about 17°C in the higher mountains.
Cooler night and cloudy Tuesday
Tonight, periods of increased medium and high cloud will continue. Winds will turn variable and weak, around force 3, while the sea will become slight. Temperatures will drop to about 9°C inland, near 12°C on the coast, and around 7°C in the higher mountains.
On Tuesday, conditions will remain partly cloudy at times with localised rain, mainly over mountainous areas and the southwest.
Rain, storms and possible snow
On Wednesday, rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected, with the phenomena weakening later in the afternoon. Snowfall may occur on the highest peaks of Troodos.
By Thursday, periods of increased cloud – mainly over the mountains – could bring isolated showers. Over the three-day period, temperatures will gradually fall to near or slightly above average climatic values, maintaining the unsettled Cyprus weather pattern.
