After a spell of unusually high temperatures over the Easter period, Cyprus is entering a milder and more stable weather pattern, according to Senior Meteorological Officer Michalis Mouskos.
Speaking to Mesimeri kai Kati, Mr Mouskos noted that the heat has eased and no extreme highs are forecast in the near term. Temperatures this week and next are expected to remain within seasonal norms, with highs around 24°C inland and 21°C along the coast.
Mild weather, but with some instability
Despite the general improvement, localised showers and brief thunderstorms remain possible—particularly in the afternoons and in mountainous, inland, and eastern regions. On Friday night, instability may affect western and northern coastal areas, with a chance of isolated rain or storms.
Fog is also possible in some interior and eastern areas during early morning hours on Saturday, which will bring increased cloud cover and a likelihood of scattered rain or thunderstorms. Weather systems will move eastward through the day.
Temperature snapshot:
- Inland: Around 24°C
- Coastal regions: 21°C
- Mountains: 16°C by day, dropping to as low as 4°C overnight
Winds will range from light to moderate (3–4 Beaufort), occasionally stronger on exposed coasts (up to 5 Beaufort), and the sea will be generally slight, occasionally moderate in the south and southwest.
Cleaner air, less dust
Crucially, no new dust events are expected. Mr Mouskos confirmed that recent dust concentrations were confined to higher atmospheric levels and did not impact air quality at ground level. No further dust transport is forecast, meaning air conditions will be noticeably clearer in the coming days.
Outlook: Sunday to Tuesday
The weather will remain partly cloudy with isolated showers, especially in mountainous areas during the afternoons. Temperatures are expected to stay relatively steady, hovering just below seasonal averages.
