Controversial social media post targets politicians and judges
Writer and parliamentary candidate Makarios Drousiotis has made headlines after publishing a social media post containing serious, unverified allegations against politicians, judges, senior officials, and a former president. The post, titled “Paedophilia, sell-offs, surveillance and rigged trials,” claims to hold material implicating individuals in corruption, rigged trials, and paedophilia.
Among those named are former President Nikos Anastasiades, House Legal Affairs Committee chairman Nikos Tornaritis, former MEP Demetris Papadakis, Attorney General Giorgos Savvides, Assistant Attorney General Savvas Angelides, EDEK parliamentary candidate Morfakis Solomonides, and a former judge.
Police involvement and Drousiotis’ response
Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis has instructed a senior officer to contact Drousiotis so he can present his material for investigative purposes. Drousiotis has requested time to consult his lawyer and has said he will respond. Until formal investigation, all claims remain unverified.
Strong rebuttals from those named
Several of the individuals named in the post have issued firm denials.
Former MEP Demetris Papadakis categorically denied any contact with the judge mentioned and challenged Drousiotis to verify his claims, offering full access to his phone and telecommunications data.
Former judge Michalakis Christodoulou called the allegations “the pinnacle of sick imagination” and said he is fully available for any investigation.
EDEK candidate Morfakis Solomonides described Drousiotis as a “specialist in fabrications” and said he will file lawsuits for libel and defamation, while placing all personal data at the disposal of authorities.
Nicos Tornaritis has instructed lawyers to examine the publication and called for a full state investigation.
Former President Nikos Anastasiades referred to his book, written in response to previous allegations by Drousiotis, and plans to issue a fuller statement shortly.
DIPA called on authorities to proceed with a full investigation, emphasising that political life cannot be shaped by unverified claims or public confrontations.
Election context
The post comes as Drousiotis and several of those named are preparing for the 24 May parliamentary elections. The timing has prompted accusations that the allegations are intended to influence electoral outcomes, particularly from EDEK, whose candidate Solomonides claims he is being deliberately targeted.
