Drousiotis allegations target Christodoulides and Police chief

Date:

New claims made in an online post

Cypriot journalist Makarios Drousiotis has made a series of new allegations in a public online post, referring to President Nikos Christodoulides, the leadership of the Cyprus Police, and past political communications linked to former officials and business figures.

The allegations have not been independently verified and include claims of political intermediaries, institutional influence, and interference in ongoing investigations.

Reference to alleged political intermediary role

In his post, Drousiotis claimed that President Christodoulides, during his earlier political career, acted as a “fixer” in the transfer of messages to the late businessman Andreas Vgenopoulos.

He further suggested that political networks continued to exert influence within the Presidential Palace, referring to what he described as a “Brotherhood” structure. These claims form part of the broader allegations outlined in his statement.

Claims involving ongoing investigation

Drousiotis also referred to the so-called “Sandy” case, alleging irregularities in how investigations are being handled and suggesting that evidence may have been mishandled or removed during police procedures.

He linked these concerns to wider institutional behaviour, stating that individuals reporting alleged corruption were being targeted instead of suspects, repeating central themes of the Drousiotis allegations.

Police leadership and Focus case reference

The journalist further named Cyprus Police Chief Themistos Arnaoutis, claiming he previously led investigations into the Focus scandal and is now heading another major inquiry.

According to Drousiotis, this raises concerns over continuity and impartiality in high-profile investigations. These points are also included in the broader Drousiotis allegations narrative presented in his post.

Strong criticism of state institutions

Drousiotis described what he sees as a coordinated effort involving state institutions, the Law Office, and media outlets, alleging attempts to discredit whistleblowers and protect powerful interests.

He concluded his post with strong criticism of the authorities, claiming that investigations are being used to suppress rather than pursue accountability.

No official response yet

As of now, there has been no official response from the Presidency or the Cyprus Police regarding the latest claims.

The allegations by Drousiotis remain unverified and are based on the author’s personal assertions published online.
