The CVAR Foundation is organising a lecture on “Adultery,” on 14 November 2024, CVAR Foundation, featuring distinguished speakers Dr Ahmet Cavit An and Dr Rita Severis. This thought-provoking lecture will delve into the complex and universal theme of adultery, a subject that transcends cultural and national boundaries and holds historical and social relevance around the world, including here in Cyprus. Dr An and Dr Severis will offer insightful perspectives on how adultery has been viewed, managed, and mythologised across different societies. The lecture will be conducted in English and promises an engaging exploration of a topic that resonates with human relationships and social norms worldwide. WHO IS WHO

Dr Ahmet Cavit An
Dr Ahmet Cavit An is a retired paediatrician and a distinguished historian. Since 1971, he has authored numerous articles and studies on the Cyprus problem and the island’s history, published in various newspapers and journals in Istanbul and Nicosia. Dr An has published 25 books in Turkish, focusing on the political and cultural history of Turkish Cypriots.
 
He served as the Turkish-Cypriot Coordinator for the bi-communal Movement for an Independent and Federal Cyprus, established in 1989. In a landmark case, Dr An won a ruling from the European Court of Human Rights in February 2003, asserting his freedom of assembly after being denied it for promoting inter-communal contact in Cyprus. His efforts contributed to the historic opening of the Ledra Palace checkpoint on April 23, 2003, facilitating crossings between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots.
 
Dr Rita Severis
Dr Rita Severis received a Ph.D. in History of Art from the University of Bristol. She studied Philosophy, at University College, London University (BA Hons) and received a Diploma in Journalism from the London School of Journalism. She is the Executive Director of the Centre of Visual Arts and Research, of the Costas and Rita Severis Foundation, and a member of its Board of Directors. She specialises in travelling artists in Cyprus of the 18th to the 20th centuries and has published widely on the subject.
