Direct access to neurologists for patients with multiple sclerosis

Date:

From March 27, GESY introduces a new chronic patient category for individuals with multiple sclerosis, the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) announced. Beneficiaries in this category will be able to consult specialist neurologists directly, without needing a referral.

Eligibility criteria

The new category includes beneficiaries diagnosed with multiple sclerosis or optic neuromyelitis, confirmed by a specialist neurologist.

The initiative aims to ensure closer monitoring and better management of patients, facilitating access to the necessary healthcare services.

Reduced patient contribution

Patients in this category will pay a co-payment of €6 per visit, instead of the usual €25, provided they have not reached the annual maximum co-payment limit and are not exempt from payment.

Additional information

Beneficiaries in the GESY multiple sclerosis category are encouraged to contact their treating neurologist for more details about accessing services.
