Cyprus’ Digital Citizen app now sends automatic notifications to help users track when their digital documents expire and renew them on time.
The new feature became available on October 26, 2026, according to an announcement by the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
Users receive notifications on their mobile phones 30 days and 15 days before a document expires, as well as on its expiry date, provided the document has been added to the app.
How the new notifications work
When users receive an expiry alert, they can access the app to manage the document.
If they have already obtained a replacement document, opening the app after receiving the notification automatically directs them to the process for adding the new document to Digital Citizen.
Expired documents remain visible in the app until users replace or delete them.
Residence permits and sports tickets planned
The Deputy Ministry said the app will continue to receive new features in the coming months.
Documents relating to foreign nationals’ residence permits are expected to be added within the next few days. Tickets for sporting events are also planned for inclusion before the end of 2026, complementing the Fan Card, which is already available through the app.
Digital Citizen aims to make everyday transactions easier by giving users direct access to their documents on their mobile phones.
The Deputy Ministry encouraged citizens to use the app and report difficulties with the acceptance of digital documents by emailing [email protected].
Digital documents are not travel documents
Digital documents created through Digital Citizen have the same legal validity as their corresponding physical documents, according to the announcement.
However, they cannot be used as international travel documents.
The Digital Citizen app is available free of charge for iOS and Android devices through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
