The National Guard is in the best state it has ever been since its establishment, stated Defence Minister Vasilis Palmas.
Speaking on state radio, Mr Palmas noted that the government selects appropriate armament programmes but refrains from providing details or making public comments.
He emphasised that the Republic of Cyprus is a peaceful state, with its armed forces positioned defensively to protect its territorial integrity if necessary.
The ultimate goal, he added, is to create the conditions and prerequisites for the resumption of talks aimed at resolving the Cyprus issue, following 50 years of occupation.
