A fatal road collision occurred Monday morning (22/12) on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway near Skarinou, claiming the life of 71-year-old Sylvia Georgiou Jones from Limassol.
Around 10:40 AM, a 64-year-old Greek Cypriot private employee from Nicosia drove a van heading toward Limassol. Under investigation circumstances, the vehicle struck and critically injured the woman.
Victim struck on hard shoulder
At the time of the accident, the woman had parked her private vehicle on the motorway’s hard shoulder and was attempting to enter or exit the driver’s seat, according to initial indications.
Hospitalized but succumbed
The 71-year-old was transported by ambulance in critical condition to Larnaca General Hospital. Despite superhuman efforts by medical and nursing staff, she succumbed to her injuries at 11:50 AM.
Ongoing police investigation
Larnaca Police Department investigates exact conditions of the fatal collision, with examinations continuing to determine the accident’s causes.
