The Nicholas Zoe Foundation is stepping up its commitment in the global fight against childhood cancer by providing meaningful financial support to groundbreaking research programmes at Boston Children’s Hospital – the top-ranked paediatric hospital in the United States and one of the world’s largest centres for paediatric research.
On Tuesday, 16 September 2025, at 19:00, the Foundation will present its joint mission with Boston Children’s Hospital for the first time in Cyprus, at the Old Town Hall in Nicosia. The initiative aims to strengthen paediatric research, accelerate diagnosis, and offer more effective treatments for children battling cancer. Held under the auspices of the President of the Republic, Mr Nikos Christodoulides, the event is titled “A Golden Effort – From Cyprus to Boston”, inspired by Gold September, the international awareness month dedicated to childhood cancer.
This meaningful scientific and humanitarian collaboration bridges Cyprus and Boston, with the shared goal of bringing knowledge, treatment, and hope to children worldwide. During the evening, leading scientists from Boston Children’s Hospital will present recent progress in a promising research project supported by the Foundation: the development of a non-invasive early diagnostic method for Ewing sarcoma, a rare and aggressive childhood cancer, using liquid biopsy technology.
A charity art auction will also take place, curated by art historian Maria Paphiti, featuring works by established Cypriot artists. All proceeds will go toward supporting the Foundation’s mission.
The Nicholas Zoe Foundation was established in 2023 by Alexia Potamitou in memory of her son, Nicholas Artemiou, who passed away at the age of nine after a courageous battle with Ewing sarcoma. A child known for his kindness, sensitivity and bright spirit, Nicholas inspired those around him, even during the most difficult moments. His loss became the catalyst for creating a Foundation that seeks to offer other children what he was denied – access to specialised treatments, care, and hope for the future.
With bases in both Cyprus and the United States, the Foundation funds innovative research for the early diagnosis and effective treatment of childhood cancer, supports families facing the disease, and raises awareness through information campaigns, international partnerships, and charitable activities.
