Cyprus weather turns unstable with rain and snow

Date:

Low pressure continues to affect the region, keeping Cyprus weather unsettled with rain, thunderstorms and even snow expected in higher mountain areas.

Localised cloud cover will develop during the day, with isolated showers possible at first, mainly along the coast. However, conditions will gradually worsen, especially around midday and later, with rain and isolated thunderstorms expected in the mountains, inland and northern areas.

Rain, hail and snow expected

During storms, hail may fall, while the highest peaks of the Troodos mountains are expected to see snow or sleet.

Winds will initially be variable and light at around 3 Beaufort, gradually turning mainly south to south-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will remain calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures will rise to around 19°C inland and along the coast, while higher mountain areas will reach about 7°C.

Tonight: showers and possible fog

Tonight, weather in Cyprus will remain mostly cloudy at times, with isolated showers and a chance of thunderstorms, mainly in coastal areas and later in the mountains.

Hail is possible during storms, while snow or sleet may fall on the highest Troodos peaks.

Towards early morning, thin fog or mist may form in inland and eastern areas.

Temperatures will drop to around 6°C inland, about 10°C on the coast, and near 1°C in the highest mountains, where frost is expected locally.

Outlook until Friday

On Wednesday, the Cyprus weather forecast shows partly cloudy conditions at first, becoming mostly cloudy later with local showers and isolated thunderstorms, mainly in the mountains, inland and northern areas. Snow or sleet may fall on the highest Troodos peaks.

On Thursday, intervals of cloud are expected with isolated showers or thunderstorms, mainly after midday, while conditions will improve later in the afternoon.

On Friday, periods of increased cloud will be observed, with stronger westerly winds affecting the island.

Temperatures until Thursday will remain slightly below average for the season, with a small rise expected on Friday.

Snow depth at Chionistra at the time of the bulletin was measured at 25 centimetres.
