Cyprus weather today will be partly cloudy to mainly cloudy at times, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms expected across the island. On the highest peaks of the Troodos Mountains, snowfall or sleet is not ruled out.
Weather phenomena are expected to gradually weaken from early afternoon.
Dust in the atmosphere
Dust will be present in the atmosphere, with concentrations at times expected to be elevated, potentially affecting air quality and visibility.
Strong to gale-force winds
Winds will initially blow mainly from the south to southwest, strong to very strong at 5 to 6 Beaufort, and temporarily up to gale force at 6 to 7 Beaufort. Later, winds will turn mainly southwesterly to westerly, remaining strong to very strong.
The sea will be rough and locally very rough.
Temperatures remain above average
Temperatures will rise to around 18°C inland, approximately 20°C along the coast, and about 7°C in the higher mountainous areas.
Tonight’s outlook
Tonight, conditions will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers possible, mainly in western areas. Winds will be southwesterly to westerly, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, locally up to 5 Beaufort. The sea will remain rough.
Temperatures will drop to 9°C inland, around 13°C on the coast and 4°C in the higher mountains, where frost may form locally.
Weather outlook for the weekend
On Saturday, the weather will remain mainly cloudy with local rain and isolated thunderstorms. Sunday is expected to be mainly cloudy, with the possibility of isolated showers. On Monday, further local rain and isolated thunderstorms are forecast.
Temperatures are not expected to change significantly over the three-day period and will remain above seasonal averages. Snow depth at Chionistra stood at 18 centimetres at the time of the bulletin’s issuance.
