Cyprus weather alert: highs to reach 41°C

Date:

A Cyprus weather alert is now in effect, with temperatures expected to hit 41°C on Thursday, 26 June. The Department of Meteorology issued a yellow warning on Wednesday afternoon, noting that the extreme heat would peak between 1:00pm and 5:00pm. The yellow warning continues today.

According to the updated forecast, seasonal low pressure and a hot air mass continue to influence the region. The skies will be mostly clear today, although patches of low cloud and light fog may appear along the eastern and southern coasts early in the day.

Winds will start off variable and light, before shifting to mainly south-westerly to north-westerly at 3 to 4 Beaufort, occasionally reaching 5 near the southern coast. Seas will remain mostly calm to slightly rough.

Temperatures today:

  • Inland: 41°C
  • West & southwest coasts: 33°C
  • Other coastal areas: 35°C
  • Mountains: 31°C

Tonight, skies will remain mostly clear, though mist and low cloud are expected to form overnight, particularly near coastal areas. Overnight lows will fall to 22°C inland and along the coast, and 20°C in the mountains.

Looking ahead, Friday will remain sunny, while Saturday and Sunday may bring increased afternoon cloud cover. Localised fog or haze is expected in the mornings, particularly along the coast. Temperatures will remain above average through Saturday, with a slight dip expected on Sunday.
