Cyprus warns over 73 unsafe products in EU alert

Seventy-three products posing risks to consumer health and safety have been identified across various European Union markets during the week beginning 25/05/26, according to the EU Safety Gate system.

The alerts, published in Safety Gate Bulletin 21, were announced by the Cyprus Consumer Protection Service, which is responsible for monitoring product safety on the Cypriot market.

National authorities assess risk distribution

For monitoring purposes, the unsafe products EU alerts were distributed among competent Cypriot authorities as follows:

  • 32 products: Consumer Protection Service
  • 16 products: Electrical and Mechanical Services Department
  • 8 products: Department of Environment
  • 7 products: Department of Labour Inspection
  • 5 products: Pharmaceutical Services
  • 3 products: Road Transport Department
  • 1 product: Health Services
  • 1 product: Mines Service

Authorities said the classification ensures targeted checks across relevant sectors to protect consumers and maintain market safety standards.

Call to businesses and consumers

The Consumer Protection Service has urged economic operators to immediately inform the relevant authority if they are distributing or have already placed any of the listed unsafe EU-listed products on the market.

Consumers are also advised to act cautiously if they possess any of the affected products.

Safety guidance issued

Authorities recommend that consumers stop using the products where appropriate, return them to the point of purchase, and notify the relevant national authority.

Officials stressed that rapid response and public awareness are essential to minimising potential risks linked to unsafe goods circulating in the EU market.
