What workers actually take home in Europe can vary significantly- and Cyprus ranks near the top.
According to data examined by Euronews, Cypriot employees enjoy some of the highest net salaries in Europe, after taxes and social contributions. In 2024, a single worker without children in Cyprus retains about 84.4% of their gross salary, well above the EU average of 68.6%. Only Switzerland reported a higher ratio.
For families with children, Cyprus remains strong, though the increase in net income from social benefits is less dramatic compared to countries like Slovakia and Poland.
In real figures, net annual income in Cyprus is estimated at:
- €24,456 for a one-income couple with two children
- €49,273 for a two-income couple with two children
These numbers place Cyprus comfortably above regional peers such as Greece and several large EU economies.

Note:
While Cyprus ranks highly for net income as a percentage of gross salary, actual earnings remain modest compared to many Western and Northern European countries. A high retention rate does not necessarily mean a high standard of living- especially when base salaries are lower overall.
