Cyprus Fire Service responds to 39 calls in 24 hours

House fire in Kalavasos

From 06:00 on 27 January to 06:00 on 28 January 2026, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to 39 calls, including 20 fires and 19 special services.

At 18:43 on 27 January, firefighters received a report of a house fire in Kalavasos, Larnaca district. Two fire trucks from the Vasilikos Fire Station controlled the fire by 19:50. Heat from the fire destroyed part of the wooden ceiling, but the home’s contents remained unharmed. Fire investigators determined that the blaze started due to heat loss in the chimney of a fireplace.

Road accident on Paphos-Limassol highway

At 00:06, firefighters responded to a road collision on the Paphos-Limassol highway, near the Erimi exit in Limassol district. Rescue teams from Agios Ioannis and Monovoliko Fire Stations arrived.

A private vehicle veered off course and collided with the highway’s metal guardrail. Firefighters used rescue tools to free the driver, who was then handed over to paramedics and transported to Limassol General Hospital’s Emergency Department.

House fire in Aglantzia

At 04:56, firefighters received a call about a house fire in Aglantzia, Nicosia district. One truck from the Kaimakli Fire Station responded.

The fire, which the homeowner’s domestic helper had already extinguished before the Fire Service arrived, affected a small home shrine. The incident damaged the shrine, the icons, and the surrounding paintwork. Authorities will investigate the cause of the fire in cooperation with relevant departments.
