The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment of Cyprus, Dr Maria Panayiotou, met with her Greek counterpart, Minister of Rural Development and Food, Minister Kostas Tsiaras, in Athens to reinforce the collaboration between Cyprus and Greece in the agricultural sector. The meeting aimed to enhance the exchange of expertise and formulate unified positions on agricultural challenges facing both nations within the European Council.

Their discussions focused on updating the 1991 Cooperation Memorandum to address current challenges, particularly climate-related issues affecting farmers in both countries. This updated agreement aims to include concrete actions for tangible improvements in the agricultural sector.

This collaborative effort seeks practical solutions for current agricultural issues, helping to prevent income losses and improve crop yields. The ministers also discussed developing a joint strategy within the EU Agriculture Ministers’ Council, uniting their voices for stronger advocacy on shared challenges.

The visit included presentations on Smart Green Agriculture and Quality Certification of Agricultural Products, underscoring a commitment to sustainable agricultural development.
