Police appeal for witnesses and footage
A Hatfield fatal crash has left a Cypriot motorcyclist dead, prompting British police to appeal for information, witness accounts and dashcam footage.
Authorities were called at 3:12 pm on Wednesday, 1 April, following reports of a serious collision on South Way in Hatfield.
Emergency services, including police, ambulance crews and fire services, rushed to the scene, where road closures were put in place.
Collision between motorcycle and car
The fatal crash in Hatfield involved a white Yamaha motorcycle and a black Lexus vehicle at the junction with Bishops Rise.
The motorcyclist, a man of Cypriot origin in his 30s living in the United Kingdom, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
Arrest made, suspect released on bail
A 50-year-old man from Pinner was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released on bail pending further investigations.
Investigation ongoing
Investigating officer Neil Crosier, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, said authorities’ thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends.
He confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
Public urged to assist
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant dashcam footage to come forward.
Information can be submitted via the police’s online reporting tools or by calling 101, quoting reference number 41/30088/26.
