A 37-year-old foreign national of Palestinian origin was arrested in Crete on Saturday during a joint operation carried out by Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP) and the Directorate for Combating Special Violent Crimes.
The suspect is accused of being a member of Hamas, as well as receiving terrorist training, travelling for terrorist purposes and planning terrorist activities.
According to information gathered by the authorities so far, the 37-year-old is believed to have connections with individuals who were recently arrested in Cyprus in separate terrorism-related investigations.
The Hellenic Police said that searches conducted at properties in Crete and Athens led to the seizure of several items, including mobile phones, a laptop computer, data storage devices, bank cards and laboratory equipment.
The suspect is expected to appear before the competent prosecutor, while investigations remain ongoing as authorities seek to fully determine the extent of the case.
