It was a wild night in Bruges. Trailing 0-2 at halftime, Club Brugge mounted an incredible comeback against Salzburg to clinch a 3-2 victory and secure their place in the Champions League play-offs.
Yet things started off poorly. In the 18th minute, Jacob Rasmussen opened the scoring for the Austrians. Just before the break, Edmund Baidoo doubled the lead. The crowd at Jan Breydelstadion held its breath.
But after the break, Brugge came out with renewed determination. Joaquin Seys reignited hopes around the hour mark. Then, in the 83rd minute, Carlos Forbs brought the sides level, sending the stands into a frenzy.
The drama didn’t stop there. In stoppage time, club captain and talisman Hans Vanaken popped up to fire home the winner. 3-2. This result, combined with their 2-0 win in the first leg, punches Brugge’s well-deserved ticket to the next round. That’s now two qualifying wins in a row, underlining Brugge’s steely mentality.
