Christmas menu prices and festive dining options

Date:

This year’s Christmas menu prices vary widely depending on venue and style, said Phytos Thrasivoulou, president of OSIKEDE- the Federation of Associations of Owners of Food, Entertainment and Event Venues- during an appearance on the “Mesimeri kai Kati” programme. He discussed the different dining packages available across the food and beverage sector, the improving prospects for the season, and the ongoing issue of a festive atmosphere that he believes remains lacking.

The low-budget option

Thrasivoulou explained that the low-budget “valantio” refers mainly to taverns or restaurants located outside major urban centres, particularly in surrounding rural areas.

In general, the lower-priced Christmas menu prices do not include music or entertainment, he said. However, they usually offer a generous meze selection, which helps create a warm and enjoyable atmosphere for diners during Christmas and New Year.

Mid-range and high-end packages

Beyond the basic tier, there are mid-range packages offered in specialised restaurants with set menus crafted for the festive season.

At the highest tier of Christmas menu prices, Thrasivoulou noted, customers can expect live music, a show, full entertainment, or even a more “cultured” gourmet experience with costly recipes or menus prepared by renowned chefs.

Have bookings begun?

Asked whether bookings have already started at venues offering these packages, Thrasivoulou said reservations are underway, currently at around 40–50 per cent. He expects the main wave of bookings to begin next Monday, once people decide where they intend to celebrate.

“Many businesses have already begun advertising their products, menus, and price lists daily on social media,” he added.

Tourism rise and the festive atmosphere issue

“Some cities are doing better this year,” Thrasivoulou said, adding that he expects increased tourism this festive season. He also noted upgrades in hotel units across the island.

“What I hope for is that we offer customers a true Christmas atmosphere. We have been falling short in this area in recent years,” he stressed.
