Parents report dust, leaks and noise
Makarios Hospital works have caused serious disruption in recent days, with parents describing “third-world” conditions inside the facility.
They reported constant noise, falling soil and dust from suspended ceilings, water leaks dripping onto beds and other areas, and dirty water flowing after supply interruptions that stir up soil and rust in the network.
Measures announced but problems persist
The State Health Services Organisation (OKYpY) had already announced measures, saying parents’ and organised groups’ reactions were fully justified.
Among the steps outlined was that all heavy construction would take place after 8:00am and pause between 13:00 and 14:00.
However, video published by SigmaLive shows work continuing during the midday period despite the announcement, creating further disruption inside the hospital.
Additional risks reported in kitchen area
At the same time, problems have also emerged in the kitchen, where officials have warned the public to avoid using electrical appliances because of the risk of electric shock.
The situation has intensified concern over patient safety and hospital conditions while upgrade works remain under way.
