Mossad operations in Iran and Lebanon were described as “revolutionary” by the head of Israel’s intelligence agency, David Barnea, during an annual awards ceremony for operatives.
According to a statement released by the Israeli government press office, Barnea said the recognised missions allowed the agency to “surpass itself in Iran and Lebanon”.
He added that Mossad operations had delivered “strategic and tactical intelligence at the heart of the enemy’s secrets”.
Focus on Iran and Lebanon missions
Barnea said Mossad operations in both Iran and Lebanon demonstrated “new revolutionary operational capabilities” in countries targeted by the agency.
He also pointed to close coordination with the Israeli military as central to recent activities, including operations linked to strikes against senior officials in Tehran.
One of the awarded operations reportedly involved covert field activity that enabled deep infiltration into the Iranian capital, according to the statement.
Strategic shift in intelligence approach
The Mossad chief said joint work with the Israeli army has reshaped Israel’s strategic approach, with intelligence operations becoming more aggressive and proactive during wartime conditions.
He described Mossad operations as part of a broader shift towards an “active force” posture.
“We will not rest on our laurels,” Barnea said, adding that the agency will act with full force whenever it identifies a threat.
He also warned that Israel’s intelligence services will respond decisively to emerging risks.
