COMPETITION FOR VISUAL IDENTITY

Nicosia 2030, a candidate city for the European Capital of Culture, announces a competition for the creation of its visual identity. It invites legal entities (such as graphic design and advertising agencies) as well as professional visual communication designers (as individuals or consortiums) operating in Cyprus to participate in the competition, which will proceed as follows:

PHASE A: EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

1–7/11/2024: Deadline for expression of interest. Interested parties are asked to contact the following to the email address [email protected] by 7/11/2024 at 23:59. The email should have the subject line “Nicosia 2030_Expression of Interest_Interested Party Name.” The following three (3) PDF files should be attached:

  1. A file named “Nicosia 2030_Interested Party Name Portfolio,” containing up to three (3) relevant visual identity projects previously created by the applicant.
  2. A file named “Nicosia 2030_Interested Party Name CVs.”
  3. A file named “Nicosia 2030_Interested Party Name Declaration” with the full details of the applicant’s legal representative, including a statement that a) the submitted samples are original and completed works and b) the applicant has the expertise and professional capability to deliver the “Nicosia 2030 Visual Identity Design” project if selected.

Late submissions or entries that do not comply with the above instructions will not be considered. Clarifications regarding this call for expressions of interest can be requested in writing at the above email address by Wednesday, 6/11/2024 at 23:59 with the email subject “Nicosia 2030_Clarification.”

8/11/2024: Notification to interested parties of the selection of the four (4) candidates for the closed competition.

PHASE B: CLOSED COMPETITION

8/11/2024: Specifications for the competition and the contract will be sent to the four selected candidates, along with a list of deliverables that will include, among others, the visual identity for Nicosia 2030, logo, a series of posters, and design elements.

27/11/2024: Deadline for proposal submissions.

28/11/2024: Announcement of results and ranking of the four candidates. The first candidate will be the selected contractor, while the remaining three will each receive compensation of €1,250, €1,000, and €750, respectively.

PHASE C: PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION

28/11/2024–10/12/2024: Completion of a comprehensive communication guide by the selected contractor, including all key communication applications for Nicosia 2030. The project deliverables and the precise structure of the Communication Manual (brand manual) will be outlined in the closed competition specifications provided to the four candidates.

TECHNICAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Each candidate should possess extensive knowledge and experience in designing visual identities for organisations, communication applications, and communication guides, with previous experience in culture/education.

Candidates must be professional Visual Communicators, holding degrees from recognised institutions in visual communication and/or relevant studies and/or a relevant postgraduate degree and/or have over five years of experience in the field of Visual Communication.

Excellent knowledge of design software, as well as technical specifications for applications (designer, animator, copywriter) and printing, is essential.

In the case of a consortium, group, or company, each entity must present the team members’ specialities and CVs, along with a professional portfolio showcasing real and completed projects to demonstrate prior experience.

CONTRACTING AUTHORITY

The contracting authority is Nicosia For Art Limited, managing Nicosia’s bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2030.

The judging panel for both Phases A and B will consist of four members, including representatives from the Nicosia 2030 – Candidate European Capital of Culture 2030 organisation and members of the Cyprus Association of Graphic Designers and Illustrators.
