Call for interest: “Nicosia weekends in the vibe of street parties and festivals”

With the new year, the Municipality of Nicosia invites new initiatives and actions aimed at making use of public spaces, promoting participation, and enriching the visitor experience to create an inclusive, sustainable, and cohesive society. In this context, all interested parties are invited to submit their proposals for the organisation and hosting of activities/events, exhibitions, themed markets, street parties, festivals, and more in the following locations:

  • Makarios Avenue (including Spyridaki Square, Zina Kanther Square, and Mnasiadou Square)
  • Eleftheria Square (bridge – upper level, lower level – covered space, and all other areas of the square)
  • Faneromeni Square
  • Costanza Moat
  • Old GSP Stadium
  • Town Hall Square – Old Market
  • Historic cores
  • Other open spaces within the city

The Municipality aims to support activities that promote environmental sustainability, adhere to accessibility and inclusion standards, and serve as platforms for interaction and collaboration among different social groups. These initiatives should cultivate the country’s culture, provide opportunities for local artists and young people, and support and showcase all forms of art.

Regarding Makarios Avenue, the Municipality of Nicosia will consider requests for pedestrianisation of the avenue from its intersection with Spyrou Kyprianou and Digeni Akrita Avenues to its intersection with Evagorou Avenue, for events such as street parties, festivals, children’s activities, and so on, over the weekends.

For approved proposals, a permit for the use of space, traffic policing, and promotion via the Municipality’s social media will be provided. It is clarified that mobile food and drink units (food/drink trucks), exhibitions, and other related activities may be set up, subject to approval and the guidelines of the relevant municipal authorities.

This call is open to all kinds of activities/events, including but not limited to: children’s games and entertainment, product exhibitions, electric car displays, book fairs, art exhibitions, musical ensembles, dance groups, theatrical performances, puppet theatre, storytelling, street performances, sports demonstrations, sports organisations, cultural associations, charities, artists, markets, festivals, street parties, and more.

Proposals must be submitted to the Municipality of Nicosia no later than Thursday, 20 February 2025. Proposals will be evaluated based on their content. Organisers must comply with regulations and obtain all necessary permits, including but not limited to: licences for alcohol sales on the street, loudspeaker permits, health certificates, safety and health requirements, and all other legal obligations. The Municipality’s services will provide relevant guidance.

Interested parties may contact [email protected], with the subject line: “Call for Hosting Open-Air Events in Nicosia”, including their proposal submission, event title, details, and indicative date.
