The Cabinet has approved an emergency fishing support package totalling €50,000 for professional fishermen affected at the Liopetri river fishing shelter.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Maria Panayiotou following the Cabinet meeting.
Support for disrupted fishing activity
The Liopetri fishing support scheme will be provided in 2026 to fishermen operating at the shelter, who have been facing prolonged difficulties due to ongoing redevelopment works in the area.
The Minister said the decision aims to address the continued hardship experienced by affected fishing professionals.
“The Cabinet decided on an emergency support of €50,000 for affected professional fishermen due to the prolonged inconvenience caused by the ongoing works at the fishing shelter,” she said.
Government response to ongoing works
Authorities said the support is intended to ease financial pressure on those impacted by restrictions and disruptions linked to the infrastructure works at the Liopetri river fishing shelter.
The measure is part of broader efforts to support small-scale professional fishing activity in coastal communities.
