“Byron” hits Cyprus tonight- yellow warning issued

The Meteorological Service has issued a yellow weather warning effective from 17:00 today (Friday 5 December) until midnight.

Intense rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected mainly along the western and northern coasts, possibly spreading later to southern areas. Eastern parts are likely to remain largely unaffected.

After midnight the severe weather should subside.

Weekend forecast

  • Saturday: Temperature around 20 °C inland and on coasts, 10 °C in higher mountains. Scattered showers possible.
  • Sunday: Further drop of 2 °C with rain starting on coasts and gradually moving inland and to the mountains.
  • MondayWednesday: Continued unsettled weather with rain and possible isolated thunderstorms.

Motorists and residents in western and northern districts are advised to exercise caution this evening.
