Building in Larnaca evacuated over safety concerns

Date:

An evacuation order has been issued for residents of a residential apartment block deemed unsafe, with authorities in Larnaca moving to clear the building as precautionary measures are implemented.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the Civil Defence is assisting local authorities in finding temporary accommodation for residents who have not secured alternative housing.

Temporary accommodation measures

Officials said the evacuation order will remain in place for several weeks, in line with arrangements made during the busy tourism season.

The decision aims to ensure affected residents have access to safe housing while repairs and restoration works are carried out on the building.

Authorities noted that the Civil Defence will support local councils in coordinating accommodation solutions for displaced tenants.

Duration linked to repair works

The evacuation order is expected to remain effective until structural issues in the apartment block are resolved and the building is deemed safe for reoccupation.

The Ministry said the temporary measure is necessary to protect residents while allowing time for necessary repair work to be completed.

Support for affected residents

Officials stressed that priority is being given to vulnerable residents, while others are encouraged to make their own arrangements where possible.

The Civil Defence will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with local authorities until the evacuation period concludes.
