A 22-year-old Turkish Cypriot man was allegedly brutally beaten in Limassol last Friday, with a complaint filed with the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Monday morning.
According to initial information reported by Sigma, a group of Greek Cypriots went to the Turkish Cypriot quarter where the young man lives and assaulted him.
Hunting dog thefts suspected as motive
The alleged attack is believed to be linked to a series of hunting dog thefts reported in recent weeks.
Information received by the group of Greek Cypriots reportedly suggested that the 22-year-old and people in his circle knew details about the thefts.
The young man was allegedly severely beaten and abandoned after his heels were cut with a knife, according to the initial information reported by Sigma.
Police investigate four people
Police are investigating the case, with initial information indicating that four people may have been involved.
Although the alleged assault took place on Friday, the complaint was filed with police on Monday. The reason for the delay remains unclear.
The 22-year-old was taken to hospital on Friday and underwent an operation lasting several hours. He was discharged and has been at home since Sunday.
