A boundary wall surrounding a residential apartment building collapsed on Friday morning in Agios Dometios during excavation works for the construction of a new apartment block.
According to the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (EOA Nicosia), the incident occurred on Pentadaktylou Street, where the boundary wall of the neighbouring residential building gave way.
Engineers assessing the site
Engineers from EOA Nicosia attended the scene immediately after the incident and remain in contact with engineers representing both the development under construction and the affected apartment building.
Safety measures and structural checks
EOA Nicosia said it has launched an investigation to determine whether all required safety measures were observed during the excavation works.
At the same time, engineers will assess the structural integrity of the affected apartment building to ensure it remains safe.
