A bomb explosion at Akrotiri in the early hours of Wednesday damaged a Greek Cypriot resident’s vehicle, according to information received by the British Bases police, who were alerted shortly after 2am.
Initial reports from the British Bases indicate the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device placed beneath the vehicle, which was parked outside the owner’s home.
The owner immediately notified the Bases police. The scene was cordoned off and examinations are ongoing with the first light of day, with bomb disposal officers participating in the investigation.
The bomb explosion at Akrotiri has prompted heightened police activity in the area, though no injuries have been reported. Authorities have not yet confirmed potential motives and investigations are continuing.
