Beach crowds flock to the coast amid heatwave

Date:

Thousands headed to Cyprus’ beaches as temperatures climbed to 43°C, with lifeguards remaining on alert throughout the day.

As temperatures climbed to 43°C under an orange weather warning, beach crowds packed the coastline as residents and tourists sought relief from the intense heat.

From early in the morning, locals and visitors arrived at beaches across the island, filling sunbeds beneath umbrellas while many others laid out towels on the sand to enjoy the summer weather.

Visitors embrace the summer heat

Beachgoers spoke enthusiastically about the conditions, praising the warm weather and crystal-clear sea.

“We brought our own food. The water is lovely, the sun is great and although it’s very hot, we’re enjoying it,” one visitor said.

Another tourist added: “We came to Makronissos to get some colour. I’m on holiday here and the water is beautiful – you can see right to the bottom. It’s the best.”

Families seek relief by the sea

Families with young children also made the most of the beaches despite the heat.

“We came to swim, ride our bikes and have fun. If you go deeper the water is cold, but here it’s warm,” young beachgoers said.

Swimming in the clear blue sea, beach games, food and refreshing drinks created a classic summer atmosphere, while lifeguards remained on alert throughout the day due to the extreme temperatures.
