Bardem to star in Cape Fear tv series by Scorsese and Spielberg

Date:

Apple TV+ has given the green light to an ambitious new series Cape Fear, with legendary filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg collaborating as executive producers. The award-winning actor Javier Bardem will play the lead role and will also serve as an executive producer.

Cape Fear is based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, which inspired both the 1962 film directed by J. Lee Thompson, using storyboards by the iconic Alfred Hitchcock, and the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg.

The new series, described as “a contemporary and intense thriller examining America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century,” is created by Nick Antosca, who will also join the executive production team.

According to the official synopsis: “A storm disrupts the lives of happily married lawyers Amanda and Steve Bowden when Max Cady (Bardem), a notorious killer from their past, is released from prison.”

As Deadline reports, in the cinematic adaptations, the central character was played by Robert Mitchum in 1962 and Robert De Niro in 1991. Meanwhile, the Bowdens were portrayed by Gregory Peck and Polly Bergen in the original and by Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange in the remake.

The 10-episode series is being produced by UCP, part of Universal Studio Group, and Amblin Television. Universal Pictures was also involved in the production of the films.

Bardem is also set to star in the highly anticipated Apple Original Films production F1 alongside Brad Pitt, which is scheduled to premiere on 25 June 2025.
