Athienou Municipality named “Green City of Cyprus” for 7th year

Date:

For the seventh consecutive year, the Municipality of Athienou has been awarded the title of “Green City of Cyprus” following its participation in the Cyprus Green Cities & Green Communities Awards 2024.

According to an announcement by the Municipality, the award was granted after the completion of the evaluation of candidate projects by the Scientific Evaluation Committee, in the presence of the Commissioner for the Environment and representatives of all collaborating bodies. Specifically, Athienou Municipality received the Green City of Cyprus award for its project “Pan-Cyprian Festival of Athienitian Products” in the category “Culture and Environment”.

With this award, Athienou Municipality continues to be part of the Network of Green Cities & Communities of Cyprus, managed by the Cyprus Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CYCEER), for the seventh consecutive year.

The approved project represents the essence of Athienou, as the festival provides an opportunity for small and medium-sized local businesses to showcase their work, promote their unique Athienitian products, and share their mission and efforts with the public.

It is noted that the Green Flags will be awarded at a special official ceremony at a later stage.

The announcement concludes by stating that Athienou Municipality remains committed to its efforts, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of life for its residents in all areas.
