Asset declarations for 2026 reveal ministers’ finances

Asset declarations for 2026 were released on Monday, publishing the financial statements of current and former ministers and deputy ministers.

The data appeared on the House of Representatives website through the Special Parliamentary Committee on Asset Declarations.

Under the law, the President of the Republic, ministers, deputy ministers, MPs and MEPs must submit detailed financial statements within four months of taking office and within four months of leaving, covering assets, liabilities, income, expenses, and family property both in Cyprus and abroad.

Ministerial financial positions disclosed

Asset declarations showed varying financial positions among members of the government.

Health Minister Neofytos Charalambides declared a 50% share in a building in Limassol, two vehicles worth €55,500, deposits of €29,359.13, and a loan of €445,163.30. His net worth shows a negative balance of –€359,960.17 due to debt, while his family assets total €205,566.95.

Justice Minister Konstantinos Fytiris reported 10 properties, including a primary residence in Aradippou and nine additional properties mainly in Paralimni, valued at €1,345,335. He also declared a vehicle worth €14,000, deposits of €75,000, and loans of €180,000, bringing his total net value to €1,264,335.

Deputy Welfare Minister Klea Papaellina declared 30 properties across Cyprus and Greece, deposits of €1,118,452, and no loans or vehicles. Her net worth stands at €1,171,608, while family assets reach €4,817,614.

Labour Minister Marinos Mousiouttas did not submit a new declaration, as he had already filed one in 2024 while serving as an MP.

Former ministers show mixed changes

Asset declarations also covered former ministers, showing both increases and decreases in wealth.

Former Energy Minister Giorgos Papathanasiou reported a net family wealth of nearly €4.7 million, including assets, investments, vehicles and deposits. His net family wealth fell by €184,981 compared with 2023.

Former Labour Minister Yiannis Panayiotou recorded an increase of €55,706, bringing his net worth to €469,672, supported by property holdings, deposits and loans.

Former Justice Minister Marios Hartsiotis increased his net family wealth by €231,952.96, reaching €832,560.55, with assets including property, vehicles and outstanding loans.

Former Deputy Welfare Minister Marilena Evangelou also reported an increase of €198,826, bringing her net worth to €394,931, supported by property, a vehicle and bank deposits.

Transparency framework in focus

The asset declarations process aims to ensure transparency over the financial interests of senior public officials, including their spouses and dependents.

The published data highlights significant differences in wealth levels among ministers and former members of government.
