Argaka: Fire contained in state forest

Date:

The wildfire that broke out on Monday morning in a forested area in Argaka has been brought under control, according to the Department of Forests.

The fire was detected at 9.30 am by a lookout station operated by the Department of Forests. Forest firefighting crews responded just four minutes later.

The fire broke out within state forest land and, according to preliminary estimates, affected an area of around 0.5 decares.

Ground crews deployed

Ground-based forest firefighting forces were mobilised to the area and worked to contain and establish control over the blaze.

Following the progress of the operation and after the fire was brought under control, the use of aerial firefighting resources was deemed unnecessary.

The fire broke out at the boundary between a private residence and the forest.

The cause of the fire is being investigated in cooperation with police.
