Apartment kitchen fire in Oroklini leaves resident with burns

Date:

A fire broke out in the kitchen of an apartment in a building complex in Oroklini on Thursday night.

The Oroklini Fire Station responded to the scene with two fire engines. The apartment’s resident suffered burns while attempting to extinguish the fire but declined to be taken to hospital by ambulance for medical treatment.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control before carrying out a final inspection and ventilating the apartment.

Oil overheated on cooking appliance

According to the Fire Service, the apartment fire was caused by oil overheating in a cooking utensil that had been left on a lit cooking appliance.

The fire damaged the cooking utensil, while part of the wooden worktop and kitchen equipment was also affected.

Smoke also affected the paintwork on the walls of the kitchen.
