Andy Burnham reaffirms support for Ukraine during visit

Date:

UK Prime Minister met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Tuesday following a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, reaffirming support as Ukraine prepares for another winter of war.

Burnham thanked Zelensky for the warm welcome from the Ukrainian people during his first visit to the country.

The leaders described their discussions at the Coalition of the Willing as honest and productive. They agreed that the international community must step up its efforts to ensure Ukraine has the support it needs to defend itself against Russia’s attacks.

Support for long-range missile production

The Prime Minister stressed the strength of unity among coalition members and reiterated that there would be no change in the UK’s steadfast support for Ukraine.

He said this commitment was further demonstrated by an agreement allowing defence company MBDA to release classified information concerning UK components for the SCALP long-range missile.

The move is intended to support Ukraine’s defence capabilities as the war continues.

Economic resilience and AI partnership

The leaders also discussed Ukraine’s economic situation, including the need to work with the insurance industry to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructure and businesses.

They welcomed a new AI partnership between the UK and Ukraine, which they said could create new opportunities and transform aspects of public life in both countries.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact.
